Rollac Zipshade Manual & Warranty
The Rollac ZipShade provides solar shading for windows, facades, and patios. Safe operation and regular care will extend the life of your system.
Operating Conditions
- Temperature: Operates between 0°F and 140°F (motor protected by thermal switch). Do not use in frost/ice.
- Humidity & Rain: 100% moisture resistant, but do not use in heavy rain, snow, or hail. Do not pressure wash.
- Wind: Meets Wind Class 3 (DIN EN 13561:2004), but retract shade in high winds. Always check forecasts.
- Obstacles: Keep the path clear of furniture, planters, branches, twigs, or leaves.
General Safety Precautions
- Only use ZipShade for its intended purpose.
- No climbing, standing, or hanging on the system.
- Do not insert hands or fingers into guide rails or moving parts.
- Keep children away from controls and moving sections.
- Any modifications require manufacturer’s written permission.
- Use only Rollac-approved components and replacement parts.
Electrical Safety (Motorized Units)
- Operates on 120V, 60Hz Somfy tubular motor.
- Controlled via remote or wall switch.
- Unplug or switch off breaker before maintenance.
- Allow 25 minutes cooldown if the motor overheats.
- Keep remotes out of children’s reach.
- Outdoor motor cables must be protected in conduit.
- Do not add unapproved sensors or accessories.
Stop operation and contact installer if:
- Motor makes unusual noises.
- Shade does not roll fully up or down.
- Motor housing is hot to the touch.
Automatic Controls (e.g., sun sensors):
Turn off in frosty conditions, when unsupervised, or when away from home.
Manual Operation
- Rolling Down: Turn crank/rod counterclockwise until fully unrolled. Stop immediately if fabric loosens; reverse slightly to re-tension.
- Rolling Up: Turn clockwise until the bottom bar touches cassette. Do not force beyond the stop.
- Use steady, gentle pressure—avoid jerking or over-tightening.
Special Operation Notes
- Manual Tape or Crank Systems:
- Lower or raise gently, especially in the final third of travel.
- Keep crank handle at ~45° angle during operation.
- Do not force the crank if resistance occurs.
- Spring-Loaded Shutters:
- Unlock with key or slide locks before raising.
- Avoid slamming against the housing.
- Lock securely when shutter is fully closed
Maintenance & Care
- If fabric gets wet, unroll later to dry. Do not store wet longer than 3 days (prevents mold/spots).
- Clean with mild soap and warm water. Rinse thoroughly. Avoid abrasive cleaners or high-pressure sprays.
- Do not clean in direct sun to prevent streaking.
- For crystal window fabric: clean with lukewarm water only.
- Annually lubricate inner rails and moving parts with dry PTFE spray (never WD40).
- Inspect regularly for debris (leaves, twigs, nests) and remove promptly.
- Schedule an annual inspection with your installer.
Fabric & Hardware Notes
- Minor color differences, folds, or creases are normal and not covered by warranty.
- Crystal vinyl may show temporary milk stains or blue lines from moisture; these disappear when dry.
- Fabric may expand, shrink, or fade over time due to temperature and exposure.
Obstacle Detection Device (Optional)
- Stops motor if the shade meets an obstacle.
- To resume: press “up,” remove the obstacle, then operate normally.
- Important: This feature reduces risk but does not prevent all damage. Warranty does not cover impact damage from obstacles.
Important: If you notice abnormal noise, resistance, or malfunction, stop operation immediately and contact your authorized Rollac installer.
